Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work only in Nashville?

While we are proud to call Nashville, Tennessee, home we work with clients from across the country.

Do you guarantee funding?

Our goal is to significantly enhance your chances of securing funding. However, it is important to understand that grant awards are dependent on many factors beyond our control, and we cannot guarantee funding. Grant decisions ultimately rest with the grantors, who evaluate proposals based on various criteria. We focus on readiness, fit, and high-quality proposals to maximize competitiveness. We also advise candidly when an opportunity isn’t a strong match.

Will you work on commission?

Reputable and ethical grant consultants never charge a commission or a percentage of the grant proceeds.  It is against the Grant Professionals Association Code of Ethics.

How do we know if we are ready to work together?

To be good stewards of limited nonprofit resources, we typically partner with organizations that have held 501(c)(3) status for at least three years, have an annual budget of $350,000 or more, and actively track program outcomes. These are basic indicators of whether an organization has resources to work with a Grant Consultant and the capacity to pursue and manage grants effectively.

How do you work with retainer clients?

Our onboarding starts with a kickoff call to confirm goals, priority funders, scope, and timelines. We then request key documents (program information, budgets, outcomes, prior proposals) and set roles, deadlines, and communication channels. Next, we build or refine your grants calendar and strategy. All materials are housed in a centralized shared drive to allow real-time collaboration. Clients review every draft, make edits or comments, and provide final approval. Clients are responsible for uploading and submission, but we assist in the process as needed.

How does the process differ for government projects?

For government proposals, we request 4–6 weeks’ lead time due to complexity. However, recent deadlines have been greatly condensed, so we will quickly assess feasibility if timelines are shorter. We start with a kickoff and document intake, conduct an RFP review, confirm required registrations and portal access, and build a detailed workplan with tasks, roles, and deadlines. We create a compliant outline, then complete two narrative draft cycles while coordinating required attachments, forms, and letters of support; the client develops the budget, and we align the narrative and budget narrative and provide templates as needed. We finish with a full compliance check and assist the client with uploads and submission as needed.

What is your success rate?

As described in several articles, success rates vary by client and depend on a variety of factors. These include organizational grant readiness, program outcomes, types of funding pursued, and much more. We partner with every client to clarify goals, identify funders aligned with your mission, and assess program strategy and outcomes. We pinpoint gaps or weaknesses and recommend practical enhancements to strengthen your proposals and overall case for funding. We have provided grant consulting services for 12+ years and have helped clients secure more than $125 million in grant funding.
